vb6 stops responding in win 7 when error 5 invalid procedure, end or debug dont work

First please forgive my ignorance if I use the wrong terminology:-

I have been using vb6 in windows 7 for quite a while with no problems.

But recently, if I am in Developer or maybe its called design mode, if I then run my application and there is an error in my coding, this produces the error code 5 for example " invalid procedure", and the usual warning box appears

BUT if I click on either END or DEBUG, VB6 crashes and stops responding, my only course of action is ctr/alt/del to get Task manager, and stop VB6 altogether, then start again.

Clicking on either END or DEBUG used to simply stop running the application, and return me to developer mode.

Anyone know what wrong ?
